ABOUT
Dave Alves grew up playing piano and singing. He started playing piano at the age of 6 and continued performing classical music throughout his childhood eventually accompanying the orchestras and jazz bands of his middle school and once in high school he added smaller ensembles and performing in Musicals to the list! By graduation he had composed his first formal piece written for Choir and select orchestral instruments which was then performed for his senior concert.
Dave took up Music Theory and Composition in College and now switched over to jazz piano and vocal. This is where he gathered his first band "Mindset" which performed his own compositions (which debuted Dave playing on guitar for the first time) and they played all around southern New England for close to seven years. After this Dave began taking his acoustic covers to the bars, lounges, & restaurants of the area and also started networking with many different musicians which connected him with new styles of music. Recently Dave formed a new band called Crooks & Scourge who performs his music in their style which has been characterized as "90s Alt-Rock revival". They can currently be found on iTunes and Google Music with their EP "Far From Here". Check out Dave's Calendar to find out when they'll be performing. During this time Dave also joined the ranks of the Providence-based band The Mad Clatter for which he played piano, guitar and back-up vocals. This gave him the chance to exercise his arranging muscle and play around with parts while not worrying about being the front man! You can find The Mad Clatter's full-length album "Parallels" anywhere you stream music. Dave is now working on his first solo acoustic album with Railroad Park Recording Studios and looks forward to an expressive collection of pieces that have not seen the stage much. The goal is to compose an album that highlights the intimate story-telling that his music has become known for. Look forward to a string of artists joining Dave on this album for many different sounds! When he's not gigging at night around New England Dave is teaching piano to students at DoubleBar Studio in Westport, MA four days a week and has been enjoying his 3 years and counting doing so. The studio helps him connect with other musicians as well as interact with the upcoming generation of musicians which is inspiring every day! |
